We’re proud to share that our Executive Director, Melissa Price Kromm, was featured in a powerful new Mother Jones article exposing an unprecedented attempt to overturn a democratic election in North Carolina.

In the piece, titled "Republicans Are Stealing a North Carolina Judicial Race. They Won’t Stop There.", Mother Jones journalist Ari Berman lays bare how Republican judges are trying to throw out over 60,000 legally-cast votes in order to hand a NC Supreme Court seat to Republican Jefferson Griffin—despite two recounts confirming Democrat Justice Allison Riggs' victory.

Melissa spoke to the deeper implications of this anti-democratic power grab:

“The judges went rogue and just created this cure process. It’s a logistical nightmare to track down 60,000 people to get them to correct something they shouldn’t have to correct... Their votes count for all the other races but not for this race. It’s an incredibly desperate attempt to rewrite the rules for just this race.”
