On July 23, 2025, advocates, community leaders, and voters from across the state gathered at the North Carolina Capitol for Court the Vote NC—a rally to hold our state’s highest court accountable.
At the center of the event was Melissa Price Kromm, Executive Director of NC For The People Action, who delivered a powerful call to action. Her message was clear:
“Our rights are under attack—and we must fight back.”
From voting rights to reproductive freedom, from fair maps to veterans’ protections and public education funding, the Newby-Berger North Carolina Supreme Court has repeatedly put politics over people. This partisan majority has:
Attempted to throw out the legal votes of active-duty military, veterans, and overseas voters
Rolled back voting rights protections
Sided with partisan operatives over the constitutional rights of North Carolinians
Melissa’s speech underscored what’s at stake and why state courts have become the last line of defense for our freedoms.

Why This Matters
95% of all court cases are decided at the state level—and North Carolina’s constitution provides even greater protections than the U.S. Constitution.
Judicial decisions affect every major issue: voting rights, reproductive freedom, education, environmental protections, and fair representation.
When courts are corrupted by partisan and corporate influence, every North Carolinian loses.
What Comes Next
Court the Vote NC marks the launch of a long-term, statewide campaign to:
Expose corruption in our courts
Build grassroots and coalition power
Fight for a fair, independent, and accountable judiciary
